WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a hospital in Washington on Sunday morning, and his office said the 84-year-old Kentucky senator is “receiving excellent care.”

McConnell spokesperson David Popp did not disclose the reason for the hospitalization or identify the hospital.

In an update provided Monday, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell was hospitalized earlier this year after what his office described as “flu-like symptoms.” Popp said at the time that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing those symptoms over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
