SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — A Sydney shark attack survivor has woken from a 10-day induced coma and spoken her first words to family members at her hospital bedside, according to updates from her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Leah Stewart was attacked at Coogee Beach on June 13 and has spent the days since in intensive care, where doctors carried out multiple surgeries and reduced her sedation this week, Joshua Stewart said in a family update.

He said doctors were able to extubate her and briefly wake her in the ICU, allowing her to tell her mother and partner Fernando, “I love you.”

Joshua Stewart said Leah Stewart is now awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff.

He also said she was reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the attack, and that it was the first night mother and daughter had ever spent apart.
